Our college is tucked away in the outskirts of Amravati, Andhra Pradesh, and every time I head to the city, all around, it’s just banana plantations as far as the eye can see.
Once the bananas are harvested, the trees are cut down, and I couldn’t help but wonder—if i can use this fiber in any way? I didn’t want to over-process or change it too much, just wanted to see how it works in its natural form. It’s kind of an exploration for me, weaving with this raw fiber and seeing where it takes me.
behind the scenes
I chose weaving as my technique to explore banana fiber, using it as weft because of its short length.
